Public Records

In compliance with Ohio Revised Code § 149.43, RCFD allows for prompt inspection of its public records or provides copies of its public records within a reasonable period of time.

Inspection of records: Public records are available for inspection M-F, 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM. Please call 740-928-4721 to make arrangements to ensure someone is available to assist you.

Public Records Requests: Requests for public records are not required to be in writing. You may call, email, come in person, write a letter and send it through regular mail, or fill out this form. Please note, written description of the specific record requested makes it easier to produce the correct record and ultimately saves time for the requester.

Definition of record (O.R.C. 149.011(G)): A record is any item that:

Contains information stored on a fixed medium (such as paper, electronic document, photograph, or any other reproducible storage medium).

Documents the fire district’s functions, policies, decisions, procedures, operations, or other activities.

Is created, received, or under the jurisdiction of RCFD.

Exemptions

Please recognize that some information and records are exempt and are permitted to be withheld. If RCFD denies a public records request in whole or in part, the requester will be notified with an explanation in writing.

Overly broad or ambiguous requests

An overly broad or inclusive request may be denied. The request must fairly and specifically describe what the requester is seeking in order for the request to be fulfilled. If RCFD determines a request to be overly broad or ambiguous, the requester will be notified of how records are ordinarily maintained and accessed and will be given an opportunity to revise the denied request.

Reasonable period of time

RCFD promotes open government and transparency and will work to fulfill proper requests in a reasonable period of time with consideration to: clarity of request, location and retrieval of records, review and redaction, preparation, and delivery.
